Surat Railway Station, station code ST, is the largest and very important railway station serving surat city, beside Gotahngam, Kosad, Uttran, Udhan Jn, Bhestan, Niol and Sachin railway station serving Surat city, the second largest city in the Gujarat state of India. It is under the administrative control of Western Railway zone of the Indian Railways. Though Surat deserve a division of western railway and Udhna Jn as full fledged tarminal It is not yet granted by Western railway. It is on the Ahemdabad Railway Station-Vadodara-Mumbai rail route. The railway station was built in 1860. It is connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahemedabad, Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Lucknow, Jaipur, Kanpur ,Nagpur and all the major stations in India by a number of trains. Jaipur Superfast Express , Ahmedabad-Mumbai Shatabdi Express, Karnavati Express, Paschim Express, Surat-Bandra Express, Indore - Mumbai Avantika Express, Indore - Pune Express, Indore - Surat Express, August Kranti Rajdhani Express, Valsad - Kanpur via. Bhopal Express, Valsad - Sonpur via. Jabalpur Express, Gujarat Express and Mumbai-Porbandar Saurashtra Express pass through this station.Recently Surat is introduced as an halt for Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani. Advance Railway Ticketing System is installed at the station to issue unreserved tickets in advance. Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) is also available. Going north, Utran Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Udhna Junction Railway Station is to the south of Surat. Inside the Station you will find Axis bank ATM and also Atm's of some other bank. Food Express Restaurant which is opened for all 24 hours is located at 1st floor. Outside the station there is the city bus terminal from where you can go to suburbs and important area of the city Sardar Patel Museum, Textile Market and the Dutch Garden are nearby sites to visit.

Opposite the railway station is Hotel Yuvraj, a 3 star hotel catering to the needs of the travelers. Surat Bus Station is very near. The nearest international airport is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (278 km.) and nearest domestic airport is surat airport.

As the train comes at first floor, Surat railway station is the only railway station in the world where the trains comes at first floor which makes it a special place.
